The Purchasing Specialist supports the overall procurement process and delivery of products/services to multiple high-volume communities through providing quantity and cost estimating, entering and ensuring accuracy of project information in the system and purchasing services in adherence with generally accepted home building principles and Mattamy standards.

 

Please note that this role primarily could focus on both the construction management and/or design elements depending on business requirements, therefore responsibilities for both areas are listed below.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Adhere to departmental processes, and requirements for purchasing and production information required for entry into BuildPro and JD Edwards, ensuring consistency, accuracy and adherence to such
  • Reviews drawings for consistency between architecture, sales & marketing information; ensures conformance with JDE system requirements
  • Quantity take-offs for residential projects from working drawings for budgeting and tendering purposes
  • Perform initial review of bids and identify any clear discrepancies, following up with trades as required under direction of the Team Lead
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with subcontractors, construction staff and supervisors.
  • Maintains and updates ERP with takeoff’s, selection rules, and template setups
  • Maintains and updates the Design Center Options Master database in JD Edwards as required under the direction of the team lead. Carries out product build-up (cost code assignment) templates with assistance as required for PPOs purchase orders
  • Maintains Option & Site/Lot Specific Cost Build-Ups and Customs
  • Assist the Contracts Manager, as required, in limited analysis of cost comparison and differences in products and services
  • Work with the Design Studio updating and working through discontinued product on offer as well as updating and upgrading offerings in keeping with design trends on a regimented schedule
  • Works with other Purchasing team members troubleshooting product library information in JDE and ensures system information is adequate for use
  • Supports the Contracts Manager with the Change Order process by soliciting updated pricing, manages applicable PO’s in JDE; addresses late changes and processes as required
  • Participates in site visits in order to check performance of trades against scope of work/contract
  • Release Purchase Orders appropriately to meet construction schedule
  • Attend site meeting when required

 

What You Bring

 

  • College Diploma in Estimating program, Architectural Technology or Construction Project Management and/or relevant related practical experience
  • Two years or more of progressive experience in the residential construction industry, including experience gained through education cooperative program placements
  • Fully conversant with the Ontario Building Code
  • Experience with reading/checking Architectural, Structural, Mechanical & Electrical drawings
  • Experience in estimating residential construction will be considered an asset
  • Strong mathematical aptitude required along with a systems logic orientation
  • Self-motivated, prioritizes tasks and works independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong analytical ability required to accurately compare trade price quotations
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel). Competent in Bluebeam & AutoCAD
  • Ability to prepare and analyze budgets and reports
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • Previous experience in JD Edwards would be an asset
