Job Introduction

Reporting to the General Manager, the Production Control Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, the safe and efficient operation of the Production Control department, responsible for managing the materials function, including administration of the Production Control management systems, production scheduling systems, shipping / receiving / sequencing operations in a cost efficient manner.  Participating in continuous improvement efforts and cost reduction activities in a cost-efficient manner exceeding the expectations of the Customer and Magna International Inc.

Major Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and practices to ensure the safety of all employees by performing as applicable, regular workplace inspections, monthly safety talks, staff meetings, review of accident investigations and approvals as required, correcting unsafe acts or conditions as observed or commending employees on positive safety performance.  Complies with all Company safety policies, procedures and rules.

Ensure that all Production Control departmental objectives and activities are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter and Magna Operational Principles.

Responsible for co-ordinating and managing the supply base to ensure consistent flow of defect free materials for production requirements to the QSS facility.

Responsible to ensure that the performance measureables related to the Materials department are on track with the departmental Key Operating Indicators (KOI’S)

Develops and implements procedures to maintain inventory levels at optimum levels and generates inventory tracking reports.

Responsible for providing clear and specific performance feedback. Develop others and improve employees’ performance through coaching, training, development activities and completing annual performance appraisals for all direct reports.

Facilitates the materials continuous improvement processes and develops cost reduction initiatives with Suppliers.

Represents QSS with Customers, Suppliers, Corporate and other Magna facilities to evaluate and promote improved processes.

Develops plans for efficient use of materials, equipment, supplies and employees. Reviews manufacturing costs and product quality and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division.

Reviews and coordinates releases for customers, develops master schedule oversees MRP and coordinates releases to suppliers.

Manages delivery and warehousing of component parts and raw materials

Perform special projects in support of the organizations business objectives.

Responsible for maintaining Production Control Procedures and Instructions within the department.

Other projects and duties as assigned

Knowledge and Education

A degree in Business Management related study, Materials Management Diploma or a minimum of 7 to 10 years materials management experience in an automotive (JIT) Tier 1 manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of both. APICS accreditation would be a strong asset.

Work Experience

Experienced with SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.

Skills and Competencies

Commitment to Continuous Improvement and lean manufacturing principles with strong purchasing experience (including cost negotiations and supplier development, new product quoting and cost analysis).

Must have demonstrated leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

A thorough knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and experience in administering positive employee relations.
